A woman maoist was killed in an encounter between security forces and Maoist militants in the forests of Kanker district in Chhattisgarh on Thursday.

The fire took hold in the jungle areas between Amatola and Kalpar, following a joint operation launched by the District Reserve Guard (DRG) and Border Security Force (BSF). The forces had moved in based on intelligence inputs about the Maoist movement in the region.

Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Kalyan Elesela confirmed that intermittent firing took place between the two side. After the encounter ended, the body of a woman Maoist was recovered from the site.

Security forces also seized a rifle, a locally-made Barrel Grenade Launcher (BGL), seven rounds of working ammunition, a walkie-talkie, and a backpack from the side.

This was a planned operation based on reliable intelligence. One female Maoist was neutralised during the exchange of fire. We recovered arms and other equipment from the site,” said ASP Elesela.
