The Centre Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has given its approval for the use of calculators in the Class 12 accountancy exam. The Board said this was a “long-overdue initiative” the demand to use calculators had been coming to us for a long time.
Now onwards, commerce students can use a calculator in the Accountancy exam, this will reduce the stress of the exam. However, the decision is still awaiting the approval of the board’s highest governing body. At present, only students with special needs are allowed to use calculators in board exams.
The meeting was held in November 2024, and the curriculum committee, led by CBSE’s academic department, advised to allow the calculators. This decision is based on the New Education Policy (NEP) 2020, to increase the thinking ability of students and unlock the bigger possibilities for them not just cramming up.
According to TOI, ” The move is intended to lessen the burden of complex calculations, enabling students to focus more on analytical skills and case-based questions,” stated the committee.
The board will soon release the release guidelines for the use of calculator types allowed in the examination.
