Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during his virtual speech on Sikkim, the state for its unique combination of natural beauty, and tourism potential. Speaking at a grand ceremony celebrating 50 years of Sikkim’s statehood,

“Sikkim is not just a hill station; it’s a cultural and tourism hub.”

The event, titled Sikkim@50: Where Progress Meets Purpose and Nature Nurtures Growth, was held at Paljor Stadium in Gangtok. A historic milestone in Sikkim’s journey since joining the Indian in 1975 as a state.

PM Modi congratulated the people of Sikkim for maintaining a perfect balance between tradition and development.

Major Projects Inaugurated by PM Modi for Sikkim

On the occasion, the Prime Minister launched and laid foundation stones for several key infrastructure and health projects, including:

  • 500 bed District Hospital in Namchi with the budget of ₹750 crore.
  • Passenger Ropeway at Sangachoeling, Pelling
  • Statue of former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee at Atal Amrit Udyan, Sangkhola.

He also released memorial coins and postage stamps to celebrate the occasion.
