Rain in Una: 220 mm rain in one night, landslides and waterlogging cause loss of crores

Una:

The heavy rain that started in Una district on Friday night took a terrible form on Saturday morning. A record 220 mm of rain was recorded in a single night, due to which waterlogging and landslides occurred at many places. Many major routes including the Chandigarh-Dharamshala National Highway were blocked, while traffic came to a complete standstill due to heavy landslides at two places in the Municipal Corporation area, which was restored with the help of machinery.

Water wreaked such havoc in the colony of the Industries Department that two-wheelers were swept away and the boundary walls of many houses collapsed. Residential houses in Rakkad Colony and Ward No. 6 have also suffered heavy damage. The National Highway was seen flowing like a river outside the Mini Secretariat complex, due to which there was a massive jam in the city.

In view of the seriousness of the situation, the administration issued orders to keep all government and private schools closed on Saturday morning. Additional Deputy Commissioner Mahendra Pal Gurjar said that instructions have been given to all the concerned departments to assess the damage and relief work is going on on a war footing.
