PM Modi inaugurated Kanpur Metro Phase 2 today, a new 7-kilometer underground corridor from Chunniganj to Kanpur Central Railway Station. With this launch, Kanpur takes a step towards its urban transport infrastructure and reducing road traffic congestion.

Total Cost: ₹2,000 crore
Daily Expected Ridership: 1 lakh+
Benefits for Commuters and Local Economy
The new Chunniganj to Kanpur Central Metro corridor will reduce travel time by upto 70% during rush hours and also reduce the public dependency roadways and public buses. Improve access to Kanpur Central Railway Station, a key intercity transit hub.
Phase 2 Expansion Brings Kanpur Closer to Metro Completion
Phase 2 now operational, Kanpur Metro will covers 15 kilometers in total. The full metro plan includes:
- Corridor 1: IIT Kanpur to Naubasta
- Corridor 2: Chunniganj to Barra-8
- Total Planned Network: 32.4 kilometers
- Total Stations (Planned): 29
