On May 31, 2025, the Indore Metro officially began operations, a historic day not just for the city, but for the entire state of Madhya Pradesh.
The inauguration, done virtually by PM Modi from Bhopal, coincided with the 300th birth anniversary of Lokmata Devi Ahilyabai Holkar, to whom the project is dedicated.
A Modern Transport Marvel in the Making
The first operational section of the Indore Metro runs along a 6-kilometer stretch of the Yellow Line, connecting five key stations, including Devi Ahilya Bai Holkar Terminal and Veerangana Jhalkari Bai. This is just the beginning of a much larger visionary project of 31.32 km corridor with 28 stations, of which 22.62 km will be elevated and 8.7 km underground.
The cost of the entire first phase is projected at around ₹7,500 crore, with ₹1,520 crore allocated for the initial 6 km stretch that opened to the public.
Commuting Just Got Smarter
For daily commuters, students, and tourists, the Indore Metro offers a reliable and comfortable alternative route to road traffic. Trains are operational from 8 AM to 8 PM, initially running every 30 minutes. The frequency is expected to improve as ridership increases.
